At the end of a wedding, Mick asked if I could provide the Christmas party entertainment this year. Of course, I jumped at the chance! Heaton House Farm organises some major parties. I’d been unavailable for the 2010 Christmas party due to a prior engagement.
The pianist singer format always works well, particularly early evening for arrival of guests. First of all, I played piano keyboard in the bar area as guests arrived for the drinks reception.
After an hour or so, staff ushered guests through to the Wedding barn. In preparation for their Christmas party entertainment, Mick and the team had prepared a circular white stage. How cool is that! (see left)
During dinner, guests still sent in requests while enjoying a fantastic dinner. Some welcome requests for piano songs by Tom Waits and classic Rat Pack – always good for during dinner. In addition, my song of the week “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.” (Noah & The Whale) plus some Christmas songs helped create the festive mood.
With just a thin covering of snow outside, the dreams of a white Christmas may not come true just yet. But my hopes of a great night surely did. The band who performed for the rest of the night – Groovy Revolution – were fantastic and great fun. After a bit of a bop and a glass of their local beer, it was time to head home. What a night! And tomorrow… more!!
